Commissions
Custom commissions are available on a case by case basis. Please read below to see if a custom commissioned piece is right for you!
This is a 4' x 6' entryway rug made for a client in Georgia.
Commissioned pieces are a beautiful way to get a very personal piece of art for your home, studio, office, or for a loved one. The process is collaborative and unfolds in approximately this way:
- You and I will have an exploratory conversation about what you are looking for. The conversation will include, among other things, aesthetics, size, the planned use for the piece, materials, timeframe, and the story or "why" behind it.
- I will go back and work up a detailed quote for the finished work, with a schedule of milestone payments for it. A non-refundable deposit will be made for the design phase.
- Once I have completed the custom design for the piece, we will talk again about how you like the design and make changes to it as necessary. When all design changes are incorporated and the design has your approval, a non-refundable materials charge will be due. The materials charge will depend on the size of the piece, how much custom wool/textile dyeing may be involved, and other factors related to materials procurement.
- When all of the materials are gathered, I will send images of the colors, textures, etc. for your approval or tweaking.
- Upon approval of materials, I will start making the piece. I will provide continual updates on my progress and do my best to work to an agreed upon timeline for delivery. Fifty percent of the completed price must be on deposit at this time.
- When all of the hooking/stitch work is complete, we will have a conversation regarding finishing techniques if we have not yet decided. Common finishes are whipstitch binding and twill tape binding, but there are others. I can guide you on this choice based on aesthetics and use. The final payment will be due when I start the binding/finishing process.
- Shipping is always free on commissioned pieces. Pieces will be shipped USPS, FedEx, or UPS, fully insured for their purchase price.
