Prey - 24" x 24" - hooked art

Here in Maine, loons are iconic. Some of my earliest memories in Maine are of hearing loons on the lakes. This piece, titled "Prey," represents finding that which needs to be faced, raising it to the surface, and, if necessary, conquering it. Loons are one of my favorite birds; they are resourceful, fiercely protective of their young, and resilient against threats.

Mostly wool strip hooked on linen foundation, hand hooked, loop by loop. Much of the material is hand dyed by me, specifically for this rug. Other materials used are yarn, sea glass, and wool roving.
